JoJo’s Perch – new years 2017 resolutions

Happy New Year’s my friends! How has 2017 been treating you so far? I know we’re only a few weeks into it but a lot can happen in a few weeks. And how did everyone do in maintaining your resolutions in 2016? I had … mixed results. Not bad, but not that great either. My long time readers will remember my resolutions list for 2016. I decided to share with my friends how I did and maybe help you be realistic on how well you did on yours.

Let’s see:

  • Letting the human sleep in: Success! Mostly. Somedays you just have to get up early and start playing. You all know what I mean, right?
  • Not getting stuck in shoe-nests: Success! After a couple of close calls with some of the laces, I had smooth sailing. I made my human take off the laces, made it much easier to keep this resolution.
  • Weight lost: Success! I lost 5 grams! … and then gained it back around Christmas time. So maybe not a complete success, but I think that this should still count. I mean, I did lose the weight … I also just happened to find it again.
  • Limiting food waste: Total success. My human has started putting most of my fruit and veggies on a toy skewer. Keeps me from throwing it on the ground before I’m done with it. It also helps keep me busy at breakfast time.
  • Chasing the dog less: A total failure here. Although, in all honesty, I didn’t think I would do very well with this one. I mean, she’s right there! And sometimes you just got to chase the dog.       Maybe if she didn’t run …
  • Anger management with the wild birds and the squirrels: Pretty much a success here. But that might be because the big jays aren’t coming around as much – the big bullies. The squirrels are still as active as usual, but I did get to charge one a couple of months ago. He was lucky that there was glass between us and will think twice about peeking in our windows again.

So a bit of a mixed bag here, but mostly a positive personal change for me in 2016. As for 2017? I think I will continue with most of them. Less waste, more anger management, and more relaxed mornings. At the very least, see if I can lose another 5 grams and keep it off.   I’m not even going to pretend to be nicer to the dog, so I guess I just leave that off this year.

Hey! Who among you have questions about dentals and tooth care? Everyone here, except the birds and reptiles, should be raising your paws … even you rodents. You know you have questions. Keep an eye out for February’s Perch. We’ll be talking about February Dental Month and how it can help you and your human. Want to know now? Have your human call the Santa Rosa Veterinary Hospital office.

About me…

I’m a 24 year old Senegal parrot. As with any creature as small as I am, I have a big attitude and know how to get what I want. I share my home with my human servant Megan and her Australian Shepherd, Kona, whom I torment to my heart’s content. Coming from a rescue, my history is a little bit of a mystery. My early life has caused me to be a picker, but it doesn’t matter too much – I know I’m gorgeous!

Have a question for me? You can contact me through my secretary, Megan Van Deren at meganvd@santarosavet.com or you can call one of my staff members at your friendly Veterinary Hospital – the Santa Rosa Veterinary Hospital.
